UNESCO Says "Homework Time"

Reykjavic City is the first city to be dubbed a UNESCO City of Literature whose primary language is not English. Reykjavic was designated as a City of Literature August 2nd, 2011. Reykjavic is a smaller city, with about 200,000 people living there, but enjoys a rich culture and literary history that is supported by the government. Learn more HERE!

A note about the flag of Iceland: The current flag was officially adopted in 1944. The blue symbolizes the surrounding ocean, the white symbolizes the glaciers and snow throughout the country, and the red symbolizes the volcanic fires. The cross made with the red and white markings symbolizes Iceland's adoption of Christianity as the national religion of Iceland.
