Gotta admit I love the coloring in that first panel. There's going to be more hand-drawn backgrounds in this story arc, which makes me happy, because digital backgrounds really are a pain. Eventually, when I've colored all the existing JC strips (there are about 80-90 pages) then I will be drawing full backgrounds and using an absolute minimum of digital background design. Since JC was originally intended for newspapers, and newspapers print comics so daggone small, I'd drawn the strips with the intention of having them shrunk WAY down, thus eliminating the need for any real background art, because readers wouldn't be able to see it in the papers anyway. Now that JC is on the internet (an overall good choice, I like to think), backgrounds are once again a priority.
